Beyond the academic curriculum, FACE also offers students opportunities to participate in enriching activities essential to their social growth and development. During the school week, all students engage in the community garden program, Paws for Friendship and music class. FACE has morning care and an aftercare program for registered students.
Morning Care is available for students Monday through Friday from 6:40 a.m. – 7:30 a.m. Morning care space is limited. It is offered on a first come first serve basis and priority is given to students enrolled in the morning care program from previous years.
Unfortunately, students demonstrating elopement and aggressive behaviors (towards self, property and/or others) will not be permitted to participate in morning care. Current students demonstrating these behaviors will be dismissed from morning care.
Fees for 2014-2015 morning care are as follows:
- $20 a week
- Payment for the four weeks is due by Thursday for the following four weeks
- Fees are not pro-rated for absences, holidays, etc.
- Drop-ins are not offered

Aftercare is available for students Monday through Friday from 2:15 – 5:30 p.m. As a continuation of the classroom, the aftercare program at FACE focuses on building social and communication skills. Student-staff ratios are maintained at a low 4:1 in a fully structured environment to maximize the social benefits for the students.
Unfortunately, students demonstrating elopement and aggressive behaviors (towards self, property and/or others) will not be permitted to participate in the aftercare program. Current students demonstrating these behaviors will be dismissed from aftercare.
Fees for 2014-2015 aftercare are as follows:
- $70 per week
- $15 per day drop-in fee*
* Must be scheduled in advance to maintain required student to staff ratio. Please email Cheryl Higham to request a drop-in day. All requests may not be guaranteed depending on how many students are scheduled to be in aftercare for that day.

Throughout the school year, FACE students spend time planting seeds, caring for vegetables and harvesting crops for the school’s community garden. The students gain exposure to sensory activities such as digging, exposure to new textures and smells, and exposure to different foods by tasting the vegetables they have harvested – all of which can be therapeutic and educational.
In addition to being highly motivating, the program also helps FACE students develop essential skills in a fun environment while catering to their unique needs and abilities. At the same time, they learn social skills by working alongside students from a neighboring charter school who volunteer their time to work with our students. The vegetables produced are later sold to members of the garden share, teaching the students about inventory and money management.
We have a limited number of memberships to the garden. If you are interested in receiving produce from our garden, please contact Ann Russell for additional information.
Every Wednesday, each classroom at FACE engages in its own special music course designed for their age and ability group provided by Ms. Kathy. For children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, music can be used as a tool to encourage social, cognitive and perceptual development. Music is effective because it can be a creative outlet to help regulate behavior and can often be a nonverbal form of communication.
